From Haul to Hand-Sized. The right mix for workdays, weekends, and whatever’s next.
If you've ever picked up a leather bag and immediately known it was different — the weight of it, the smell, the way the grain catches the light — then you already understand what separates a Range Leather bag from everything else on the market.
We make our bags by hand in Laramie, Wyoming, from full-grain Horween leather sourced from one of the oldest and most respected tanneries in the country. That's not a marketing line. It's a choice that costs more, takes longer, and requires a level of craft that most brands quietly abandoned decades ago. We think it's worth it.
What Is Full-Grain Horween Leather?
Most leather goods you'll find — at department stores, on fast-fashion sites, even from brands that use the word "leather" prominently — are made from top-grain, split, or bonded leather. These are sanded, corrected, or reconstructed hides that have had the strongest, most character-rich layer of the animal removed or diluted. They're smoother and more uniform out of the box, but they're weaker, they don't age well, and they don't develop the kind of rich patina that makes a bag more beautiful five years in than it was the day you bought it.
Full-grain leather is different. It's the outermost layer of the hide — the strongest part — left intact, with all its natural grain and character. Horween Leather Company in Chicago has been tanning hides since 1905. Their leather is used by shoemakers, saddlers, and craftspeople who demand the real thing. When our customers handle a Range bag for the first time, the first thing most of them say is: "It smells amazing." That's Horween. That's what real leather smells like.
Handmade in Wyoming
Every Range Leather bag is cut, stitched, and finished by hand in our workshop in Laramie, Wyoming. If you've visited our store, you've seen it — the craftspeople at the bench, the smell of leather in the air, the tools hung on the wall. If you haven't visited, know this: we don't outsource production. We don't use an overseas factory. Every bag that leaves our shop was touched by someone who takes pride in it.
Being made in Wyoming isn't just a geographic fact — it's an attitude. We build things to last. We stand behind what we make. And we're not interested in cutting corners to hit a lower price point.
A Bag That Gets Better With Age
Full-grain leather patinas. That's not a flaw — it's the point. Over months and years of use, your Range bag will develop a finish unique to you: the places you carry it, the oils from your hands, the light it's been in. Customers who've carried their bags for two or three years tell us it's their favorite thing they own. One customer described it as "walking into history in the best way." Another: "Beautiful, rich leather products that will last a lifetime."
Fast fashion bags are designed to be replaced. A Range bag is designed to be kept.
The Forever Guarantee
We back every bag we make with our Forever Guarantee. If something fails — a stitch, a snap, a strap — we'll make it right. We can say that because we build bags that don't fail often, and because we're a company that takes accountability seriously. This isn't a limited warranty with fine print. It's a commitment.
Style That's Genuinely Versatile
Our customers describe Range bags as classic, timeless, versatile, and elegant. They're not loud. They're not trend-chasing. They're designed to work with what you already wear — dressed up or casual, at work or on a trail. The Atna Belt Bag sits flush and clean at the waist or worn crossbody. The Kennedy and Augusta crossbodies are sized for real daily carry without bulk. The Mesa and Sierra totes hold more than you expect without looking like luggage.
We offer our bags in Natural, Maple, Nut Brown, Black, and select seasonal colorways — all in the same full-grain Horween leather, each developing its own distinct patina over time.
Why Range Leather?
Because you're done replacing bags every two years. Because you want something made by people who care, in a place you can point to on a map, from materials with a known provenance. Because you've held one of our bags in person — at our Laramie store, at an event, in a friend's hands — and you already know.
We're a small company. We make things the hard way on purpose. And we think that's exactly what the world needs more of.
Range Leather bags are made from full-grain Horween leather — the highest grade of leather available, sourced from Horween Leather Company in Chicago, one of the oldest and most respected tanneries in the United States. Unlike top-grain or bonded leather (which is sanded, split, or reconstructed from scraps), full-grain leather retains the outermost layer of the hide: the strongest, most durable part. Hardware is solid brass. Stitching is done by hand in our Wyoming workshop. There are no synthetic linings, no faux-leather panels, no shortcuts. What you see is what it is.
Yes — every Range Leather bag is handmade in Laramie, Wyoming. We don't outsource manufacturing. Our craftspeople cut, stitch, and finish each bag in-house, in a workshop you can visit in person. For customers who care about domestic manufacturing — and a significant number of our customers specifically cite this as a reason they chose us — we want to be completely clear: made in the USA means made in Laramie, Wyoming, by hand, by people who work here.
The Atna Belt Bag is our most popular everyday carry bag — sized to hold your phone, cards, keys, and daily essentials without bulk. It wears comfortably at the waist or crossbody and has become a go-to for customers who want a hands-free alternative to a traditional purse. The Atna Mini Belt Bag is a smaller version for true minimalists: cards, a key fob, and not much else. If you carry a lot, go Atna. If you want the absolute minimum, go Mini. Both are available in the same full-grain Horween leather colorways and develop the same beautiful patina over time.
A belt bag (sometimes called a fanny pack or hip bag) is a small, hands-free bag worn on a strap around the body. The Range Atna Belt Bag can be worn three ways: at the waist with the bag at your hip, worn crossbody with the bag at your chest or back, or looped through a belt. Customers frequently describe upgrading to the Atna from nylon belt bags because they want something that looks polished enough for work or a night out, not just a hike. The full-grain leather construction means it doesn't look like athletic gear — it looks intentional.
The Forever Guarantee means we stand behind every bag we make, indefinitely. If a stitch fails, a snap breaks, or a strap wears through under normal use, contact us and we'll repair or replace it. We offer this because we build bags that are meant to last decades, not seasons — and because we think a guarantee should mean something. No fine print, no time limit, no hoops to jump through. If something isn't right, we'll make it right.
All four colorways are the same full-grain Horween leather — the difference is in the tannage and finish, which also affects how they patina over time. Natural is the lightest, with a creamy tan tone that deepens and warms with use — the most dramatic transformation over time. Maple is a warm medium brown with reddish undertones, versatile with most wardrobes. Nut Brown is a rich, classic brown — the most traditional leather color, works with everything. Black is clean and modern, develops a subtle sheen with wear rather than a color shift. If you're unsure, Natural and Maple are our most popular choices for bags; Nut Brown and Black tend to be preferred by customers who want something more understated.
Yes — and that's one of the things our customers love most about full-grain leather. Unlike corrected or top-grain leathers that are sealed with a uniform finish, full-grain Horween leather is alive. It absorbs the oils from your hands, softens with use, and develops a patina that is entirely your own. Customers who have carried their bags for two or three years consistently describe them as more beautiful now than when they were new. One customer put it well: "Beautiful craftsmanship — it's like walking into history in the best way." This is why we build the way we do.
It depends on what you carry. For a true minimalist load (phone, cards, keys), the Atna Mini Belt Bag is ideal. For everyday essentials without a full purse, the Atna Belt Bag is our most-purchased bag and works for most people. If you need room for a small notebook, sunglasses, or more, the Kennedy Crossbody or Augusta Crossbody offer more volume in a still-compact form. For work, travel, or carrying a tablet, the Mesa Tote or Sierra Tote are built for that load. If you're still unsure, reach out — we're happy to help you find the right fit.
Consistently, yes. A significant portion of our bag orders are gifts — for wives, daughters, mothers, and friends who've admired someone else's Range bag and put it on their wish list. The quality is immediately apparent when someone opens the box: the smell of real leather, the weight of brass hardware, the clean handmade stitching. We also offer monogramming on select styles. Our Forever Guarantee makes it a particularly meaningful gift — it's not something that will need to be replaced. If you're buying for someone else and want help choosing, contact us and we'll point you in the right direction.
Full-grain leather is more resilient than it looks, but a little care goes a long way. For everyday maintenance: wipe down with a dry or barely damp cloth if needed. For conditioning — which we recommend every few months with regular use — use a quality leather conditioner (we recommend Leather Honey or a similar natural conditioner). Avoid soaking the leather in water; if it gets wet, let it dry naturally away from direct heat. Do not use harsh chemical cleaners or petroleum-based products. With basic care, your Range bag will outlast most things you own. The patina it develops with use is a feature, not a flaw — you don't need to restore it to new.
